YOU MUST BE AWARE OF CERTAIN FACTS!
As long as your company qualifies under the Texas Rule 3.295 governing utility tax exemptions, you will be exempt from utility taxes on natural gas and electricity usage. Keep in mind however that this does NOT include ALL taxes you will see on your utility statements! The only taxes that are exempt are state, county, city, MTA and SPD.
The type of taxes that you are charged will depend on your location. For instance, a company in the city of Houston will be charged state, city and MTA tax, whereas a company in Tyler will only be charged state tax. Even within certain cities, you may be charged a state, city MTA tax in one location, but a state, county and SPD tax in another. The system of taxing is very complex, and depends on many factors.
Our company is knowledgeable in what taxes are charged where, and the rate of tax that is permitted by state law. Some utility providers will complicate the issue by including an administrative fee within the state tax, and we know how to identify those issues.
The studies we submit to the state comptroller are very exact, detailed and thorough. We ensure that everything is proper and can be validated. To that end, we have a significant relationship with the state on the detail and correctness of exemption refund requests.
